What is a 7z file?
A .7z file is an archive created by 7-Zip. It uses the open LZMA/LZMA2 compression algorithms, which usually
produce smaller results than ZIP for the same content. Because it’s so efficient, 7z is popular for software
distribution, large document sets, and backups.
Unlike a plain .zip, a 7z archive can also be password-protected (with the option to hide even the file
names), and it can be split into several volumes.
